New street food market during World Pride og EuroGames 2021
Once again, it's time for the colorful World Pride. Like everything else these days, it has required a new format and also a new street food market.
Pride is back – and cheers to that! World Pride 2021 has faced a myriad of challenges with restrictions and changes due to Covid19. Despite the circumstances, the important event has taken its shape, though in a different form than it was originally intended. Even the well-known and usual parades on the Town Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen), one of the biggest events during the World Pride, have even had to be canceled. The Town Hall Square, however, retains its place as the headquarters of the event, but now under the theme ‘Garden & Street’, which makes the square an outdoor hangout spot with smaller stages, food trucks, and music. Gorms Pizza serves crispy pizzas, Planteslagteren meat-free servings such as vegetarian burgers, and Roasted Rye offer slider versions of Danish open sandwiches. The Pride’s signature cake from La Glace Pineapple Pride, which is the cake version of the icecream Københavnerstang, will also be served when the Pride organization celebrates its 25th anniversary on August 14th.
World Pride and EuroGames in colorful union
This year, World Pride has linked up with the LGBTI+ sporting event EuroGames under the joint name Copenhagen 2021 from 13th – 22nd of August. A celebration of this size also requires good things to eat. Therefore, an entire street food market is planned to feed the many guests in the capital. For 10 days you can eat from 25 food trucks during Copenhagen 2021’s largest gathering points, while 22 food events will be available for participants. Event participation requires ticket purchases in advance, but with events as Rosé and Shrimp, Pizza Sauce School for children, Oysters and Bubbles, long table lunch, and brunch for the plausible headaches, it sounds like the party started already.
‘It is no secret that the circumstances have meant that we had to re-think many of the activities. Therefore, we have arranged the world’s first WorldPride and EuroGames Street Food Market in partnership with Mad & Marked. You can literally say that we have “moved the party out into the kitchen”‘, says Michael Bager, Strategic Manager at Copenhagen 2021 in a press release.
Hungry Dane, Mexi Hagen, Nordic Hotdog, Munch Pit, VaNica, and Miss Mums are some of the other food truck owners who will be ready to entertain you in the areas of Fælledparken, on Islands Brygge, and by Gammel Strand. One thing is for sure, it will be no less a party this time around and nobody is going home hungry.
