Join the beer-festivities at Copenhagen Beer Week
Celebrate the beer at Copenhagen Beer Week from the 3rd - 11th of September for its second year in a row. Both the big and the micro kinds of breweries have come together to show, that Copenhagen remains a top spot in the world when it comes to brewing beer.
Whether your preference is to find the bottom of your glass in the darkest corner of a pub, or you balance it as you move towards the dance floor, Copenhagen Beer Week will probably present you with multiple places to enjoy your night or day. You can, responsibly, choose to taste Smørrebrød with beer at Københavner Caféen, or maybe less responsibly, start your Saturday by attending an unofficial attempt at the world record in Beer-Yoga on Israels Plads.
A natural way to start your beer week could be to attend one of the many beer tasting events. You can “taste the board” at Mikkellers, try the Hancock Collection at Høkeren, or visit Carlsberg Byen (the newly constructed city district surrounding the iconic Carlsberg buildings). And if you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can find a beer tasting, with beer from one of the very small breweries, such as Bicycle Brewing or Fanø Bryghus (the last one has a ‘tap takeover’ event hosted at Nørrebro Bryghus).
Beer and restaurants
Would you rather enjoy a beer with your food (or perhaps also enjoy a beer with your food)? At Grisen they offer a ‘Klassisk Classic’. You will get a Nørrebro Bryghus Classic beer, served with Grisens iconic take on the danish specialty, a pork roast sandwich with ‘brun sovs’ (a gravy traditionally served with roast pork and potatoes). Some will consider themselves a tad too fine for Grisen, and of finer options, you can consider a seafood platter at Zeleste including a whole lobster, crab claws, oysters, moules marinieres and more, accompanied by a special champagne beer from Mikkeller, all to be enjoyed in Zeleste’s cozy courtyard garden. If you’re up for sightseeing and a walk before you dine, you can attend a guided city walk in the city district of Carlsberg Byen, ending at the Carlsberg Elephant statues, where dinner will be served at Carls Øl- og Spisehus.
Fun and festivities
You can certainly have a good time without alcohol, but you can also plan fun events with beer. Join in for Strik og Drik (Knit and Drink) in the People Like Us-bunker at Amager Strand, which for a day will be transformed into a creative workshop. Or join the beer choir (ølkor) at Nørrebros Bryghus, along with those of us that probably sing the best when we’re in the car. Did Beer Yoga sound good (just not Saturday morning!) there will also be evening events at both Absalon and Carl’s. You can also find yourself a quiz, saunagus, or beer banko.
Copenhagen Beer Week will be ending with the CPHBW final party at Werkstatts 167 on Reffen. The venue is a thousand square meters, and everyone’s invited. The DJ duo ´Hej Leif´ will wind up the dance floor with a special selection of funky danish tunes.
