Eat street food by the lakes
The three-day food festival Street Food om Søerne will be taking place from the 10th–12th of August. The event is organized by Kitchen Collective and Rebel Food with the purpose of promoting a food scene with cultural diversity – and we’re already excited!
Street Food om Søerne is taking over the lakes with more than 50 different food trucks and stalls, all having their own focus. The diversity in stalls will be as versatile as their owners, and the range goes from food entrepreneurs and small restaurants to established and well-announced chefs. The event is organized as a testing platform, where the stall owners have the opportunity to try off new recipes and concepts in an informal environment, while being able to talk to the guests and customers at first hand.
The festival showcases food from many different parts of the world, including Mexico, Japan, Thailand, Argentina, France, Australia and of course Denmark. All stalls offer a tasting dish for only 40 kroner. so you can try a lot of different food without emptying your bank account. Nørrebro Bryghus will be in charge of the beverages with cold, local organic draft beers, while the Danish start-up Læsk will be pouring up fermented soft drinks and lemonade, kombucha and swizzles.
Besides the huge amount of good eats, the festival’s focal points include giving a contemporary indication of great street food in Denmark, and what it will be in the future. Therefore, one of the festival’s main events is the granting of “Årets Street Food’er” (Street food of the year) and ”Årets Særpris” (Special price of the year) at Søpavillonen Sunday the 12th of August. The winners will be selected by knowledgeable entrepreneurs from the Danish food scene, amongst them the Copenhagen mayor of culture and leisure, Niko Grünfeld. The panel will be focusing on quality, originality, and sustainability.
Yet another good reason for visiting the fair is the collaboration with the social economic organization FRAK. On a daily basis, FRAK is helping young adults on the edge of society in getting ready for the labor market.
