A restaurant experience for kids – Smagens time is back
Once again, it's time for TASTE OF TASTE. This year's theme focuses on local produce, but fortunately, the essential thing is the same as always - it's still completely forbidden for adults.
On October 6th 2021, the youngest family members are invited to be a part of round 11 of SMAGENS TIME (An Hour of Taste), a restaurant experience for kids beyond usual. Over 50 restaurants across Denmark and in the Faroe Islands welcome guests between 5 and 15 years. They are invited inside restaurants for a memorable 3-course dinner that both tastes terrific, is full of sensory impressions, and that, most importantly, is entirely forbidden for adults.
Smagens Time is, however, so much more than just tasty food. The experience is also about the joy of food, food courage, hospitality, and togetherness around the table. At SMAGENS TIME, the little guests meet to experience all facets of a restaurant meal together. Everything is like a regular restaurant visit; first, the joy of anticipation, the welcome, seating, conversation, fun around the table with peers, presentation of the courses, and finally, the kitchen staff’s thoughts behind each dish. In addition, the children will meet fantastic chefs and hosts, try new flavors, textures and ingredients. All in all, it will be an explosion of sensory impressions!
One of the participating restaurants in Smagens Time is the renowned Restaurant Lumskebugten and owner and head chef Erwin Lauterbach. And it’s not just the kids who enjoy the small company. “Smagens Time is also an experience for us chefs and waiters. In addition, children who play “adult” as they have sincere comments about what they experience always gives a smile and food for thought, “explains Lauterbach.
Local theme
This year’s theme for Taste Time is LOCAL, as the pandemic has given an increased focus on recognizing produce from nearby to an even greater degree. How the restaurants interpret the theme is individual, and as always, a single theme can unfold in more than 50 different versions.
A restaurant visit with a good purpose
The profits from SMAGENS TIME go to the Melting Pot Foundation, which does gastronomical projects abroad. Food can create significant change in society. For example, Melting Pot Foundation has i.a. operated the Gusto restaurant in Bolivia and is about to launch a new initiative in Marrakech, Morocco.
